Foster care for older children

carer with young personWe are recruiting for foster carers for older children from a wide variety of backgrounds to reflect the diversity of the young people themselves.

Carers for teenagers can be single or couples, but crucially we need people who are able to work successfully with adolescents. This may be through experience of raising their own families or having significant contact with young people through their work.

Foster Carers will need to share a genuine enjoyment of working with teenagers and have a commitment to promoting their well-being with a sense of fun.

Older children in foster care can present challenging behaviour due to their previous experiences. This may not apply to all teenagers who are fostered, who are simply children who need help and encouragement of a settled family to enable them to reach their full potential. As with all teenagers they will need guidance to help them through the difficulties of adolescence.
We do not need "special" people but carers with excellent communication skills who can provide consistent boundaries regarding behaviour and will be to negotiate effectively with a young person to help them face difficulties when they arise.

If you are interested please phone us to find out more, we are actively encouraging applicants to play a crucial role in this vital area of work.
