Kent County Council recognises the importance of its
transport network, not only to Kent's residents but the country at
large. People need good access to shops, jobs, schools, friends,
family and other opportunities, yet the consequences of this has
been increased congestion and pollution.
Whilst most people own and drive a car, 22% of households in
Kent do not have access to a car and we, through our commitment to
supporting independence, are looking to provide them with
affordable, accessible and convenient alternatives.
Our vision for transport is:
"To provide good accessibility to jobs and services for all
sections of the community in Kent and to improve the environment by
reducing congestion and pollution, widening the choice of transport
available and by developing public transport, walking and
cycling"
Through this vision, our aim is that:
- the residents of Kent will enjoy greater independence with
better access to opportunities, and a greater choice in how they
travel
- the transport network will support economic regeneration and
growth that will not automatically result in increased congestion
for all users
- fewer people will be injured and hurt when travelling,
especially children and those from more deprived areas
- delays and incidents will cause less disruption to people's
journeys and travellers will be better informed
- residents will suffer from less road noise and pollution and we
will reverse some of the damage to the local environment caused by
traffic in Kent.
