Health and safety

Security

Safety and security are our primary concerns. We take every possible step to make sure the Hardelot Centre and all those who attend on school trips are safe and secure. We're registered with the local police, fire brigade and technical authorities and the Department for Youth Engagement and Sports who maintain very high European standards.

The centre is regularly inspected by the local authorities to make sure it is suitable for groups of young people. We work closely with them to make sure that these standards are met. Our centre was rigorously inspected by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom and we have gained the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge reflecting that we meet the high standards they set.

Our site is peaceful and secure and you have sole occupancy of the centre.

We ensure that your school group is safe and secure at all times during your stay at the Hardelot Centre:

  • all accommodation blocks’ external doors can only be opened from the inside when locked
  • windows can only be opened from the inside, and only for ventilation
  • a safety talk and fire drill are conducted soon after your arrival
  • equipment is regularly checked before each use to make sure it meets the required safety standards.

Our staff

The centre staff are trained to take responsibility for the safety of the children in their care and to make their stay at the centre both fun and educational. All our staff are selected for their enthusiasm and experience working with children. DBS checks are carried out on all members of staff.

Our kitchen staff hold relevant qualifications. HACCP regulations regarding food hygiene, handling, storage, preparation and service are adhered to.

First aid

The first aid room will be made available to your appointed first aider on arrival at the centre. Should any member of your party need the services of a doctor or hospital, this is readily available and the centre staff will be on hand to help. Amongst our staff there are several first aiders who can assist with any queries you may have. All staff are trained in our established accident and incident procedures. A copy of our public liability details is also available on request.

Staying safe while having fun

Everyone needs to wear long sleeves and trousers when playing in the centre grounds. The residential centre and challenge course have up-to-date risk assessments and are always checked thoroughly before each use. Rigorous weekly checks are also carried out by our experienced staff.
