Working with families
You could be working or volunteering within a family hub and looking for a little extra support to give parents, carers and their children. Or perhaps you are working with families for a different organisation within Kent.
On this page you can learn about some of the schemes, training and resources available to you to skill up or share with local families and help in their parenting journey.
Breastfeeding friendly Kent
Breastfeeding has long-term benefits for mums and their babies. Breast milk adapts to the changing needs babies have as they develop and helps to prevent tummy bugs and childhood obesity. World Health Organisation recommends breastfeeding babies until they are 6 months old, and then alongside solid foods until they are 2-years-old or more.
Share our pages about feeding your baby with families you work with for resources and professional help with breastfeeding.
How your business or community can support breastfeeding
We are inviting businesses and organisations across Kent to apply for a £1,000 grant to help make your premises more welcoming to breastfeeding mums.

Healthy Start scheme
Share the Healthy Start Scheme with families needing help on low incomes. Eligible families will receive funds for fruit, vegetables, and milk or formula. Mums and children may also get Healthy Start vitamins every 8 weeks.
Make sure low-income and vulnerable families don’t miss out on up to £1230 per child in funds for food, milk and vitamins by sharing our page on help to buy food, milk and vitamins where families can check if they qualify.
Train to become a Healthy Start Champion
Training is free and takes around 15 minutes. Learn all the key information about the Healthy Start scheme from the comfort of your own home. Complete the training in your own time and on any device.
Share what you learn from the training and quiz with any families you support who are experiencing financial hardship.
