Heritage volunteering
Historic Environment Record volunteers
Kent's Historic Environment Record has information on archaeological sites, historic buildings and landscapes, archaeological events and sources. These records are linked to a digital mapping system.
We are looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers to add information to the Historic Environment Record, and play a critical role in the conservation of Kent's heritage.
What's involved
Volunteers help to create new records from our collection of archaeological reports.
You'll work through the reports, compare them with existing records and either add information to existing records or create new ones. Sometimes you'll use aerial photographs, historic maps or other documents too.
We provide full training and support so you don't need any previous experience, though you do need a good understanding of UK archaeology.
Who can volunteer
Due to the specialist nature of the information, volunteers must be undergraduate or graduate archaeologists. We do also have opportunities for other volunteers from time to time.
All we ask is that you commit to spending some time with us. This can be either full time or part time.
