The Reading Agency and libraries are excited to introduce the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge, Marvellous Makers!
The 2024 Summer Reading Challenge is developed in partnership with Create, a leading charity bringing the creative arts to those who need it most. This year’s challenge aims to fire up children’s imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.
Every year we launch the free Summer Reading Challenge, produced by The Reading Agency, for children aged 4 to 11 years. This year, join our Marvellous Makers: Amelia, Charlie, Kai, Maya, Riley, Laila and Yasmin - and Bob the dog! Our Marvellous Makers characters are all part of a creative club, making something amazing, inspired by their favourite books for a (fictional) festival at their library this summer.
Take part this summer
Children can visit the library to take part, or visit the Summer Reading Challenge website to take part digitally.
The Summer Reading Challenge runs in Kent from Saturday 6 July to Saturday 7 September and aims to keep children reading over the summer.
The challenge is to to read six books, eBooks, eAudio or eMagazines. All children receive a certificate and a medal once they’ve completed their challenge. Children can also earn six Kent Children’s University Learning Destination credits for reading six books and an extra credit for each library activity or event they attend.
