Virtual volunteer as an education appeal panel member

Do you care about education and want to make a difference? We are seeking to appoint volunteers for our education appeals panels who deal with school admissions.

All appeals are conducted on a virtual platform which means you can help out in the comfort of your own home.

The amount of time you wish to dedicate is entirely up to you. Each session usually runs from 9am (sometimes with a pre-meeting around 8:45am) to 4pm and you would need to attend the whole session.

Our busiest time is from April to the end of July, this is when we hear multiple appeals. We have to have the same panels so some can take place over a number of days.

Overview of the role

Our panel members fall into two categories:

  • Lay member - people without personal experience in the management or provision of education in any school (disregarding experience as a school governor or in another voluntary capacity)
  • Advisory members - people who have special knowledge or experience of the provision of education

Requirements of the role

We will provide online training and you will have the opportunity to shadow an appeals panel.
