Coldharbour Roundabout
About the project
Works progressed extremely well, with the project opening ahead of schedule, in November 2024.
The remaining landscaping, fencing and demobilisation works continue while the roundabout remains open.
The scheme aims to reduce congestion, improve journey times and support the M20 smart motorway.
Approximately 70 trees have been planted to replace the 40 that had to be removed and three Unknown Tommy statues can be seen alongside the new trees planted on the central roundabout island following liaison with neighbouring Royal British Legion Institute.
What we improved
The roundabout has been enlarged and additional lanes created on the approaches to improve capacity.
The existing traffic signals have been removed and entry onto the roundabout has been changed to give way control.
The scheme is expected to improve capacity of the Coldharbour Roundabout by 60% in the morning peak period and 40% in the evening peak period.
We have also:
- replaced and upgraded the drainage system
- installed new street lighting and signage
- resurfaced the carriageway.
