Residents' parking schemes
Residents' parking schemes help people who live in busy areas park near their house. The area may be busy due to:
- too many cars and not enough spaces
- visitors to a town centre
- commuters parking near a railway station.
How the scheme works
Residents may buy a permit for their area. The cost of the permit covers the costs of the scheme. Roadside signs tell people that they are in a residents' parking zone. People who do not have a permit can only park there for a limited time.
Your district council can help you to:
- buy a parking permit
- set up a new residents' parking scheme
- find out about exemptions
- find out where you need a permit to park.
