Helping your SEND child or young person with mental health problems
General support
If you are a parent or a carer and you are concerned about their mental health and wellbeing, there are specific services available in Kent and Medway to support you and them.
Visit the Kent and Medway Wellbeing Hub.
Help from your child's school or college
If your child or young person has special educational needs, you may get extra help from your school or college. See how they can help you.
Dynamic Support Service
The Dynamic Support Service (DSS) is for autistic children and young people, and those with a learning disability, with escalating emotional or mental health needs. It builds on the commitment made in the 2019 NHS Long Term Plan to provide key working services.
Your child or young person can access the DSS by applying to the Dynamic Support Database (DSD) if they are:
- not receiving the right care and treatment in their community
- at risk of admission or hospitalised.
It aims to help:
- social and health care workers, to help those whose mental health is getting worse
- review and identify extra healthcare, education and social care support.
