[Narrator] Hello everyone. Today let's talk about the safety of electrical items from plug sockets to appliances. We all have quite a few don't we? Well let me share some tips to help stay safe.

First things first. Take a look at your plugs and sockets. Make sure they're not overloaded and check that visible cables and leads are in good condition. Many of us live in older homes, right? Sometimes the wall sockets are not enough so we use extension leads and adapters, but be cautious.

Only use one socket extension lead per socket and never plug an extension lead into another extension lead. Better yet, go for a multiway bar extension lead instead of a block adapter. Some block adapters don't even have a fuse, that's a fire risk. And guess what, Electrical Safety First has this helpful online calculator.

Check it out to ensure you haven't overloaded your plug sockets or extension lead. Here's the link -https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/guidance/safety-around-the-home/overloading-sockets/ .

Look around your home. Are your light fittings looking okay? No scorch marks? Down-light is shining bright? Fantastic! And remember, do not keep combustible materials near your fuse box, electricity meter or electrical intake.

Oh, and let's not forget the microwave, it's not a storage shelf. And never trail cables under carpets or rugs. Safety first, always.
