This is a transcript of a video found on Report a problem on a public right of way.

Emma, a Public Rights of Way officer, explains how to report a problem with a public right of way.

Emma: "Hello, I'm Emma, a Public Rights of Way officer at Kent County Council.

I'm here today to talk you through our online reporting tool, the fastest and easiest way to record any issues regarding our public rights of way.

Kent has a network of paths spanning 6900 kilometres which are protected in law and known as public rights of way.

These paths provide accessible and maintained links within Kent’s communities and form a unique, freely available resource that allows the public to explore the countryside and coast, or undertake everyday journeys.

If your report relates to a road, pavement or street light, then please use the Kent Highway's ‘report a fault’ system. You can report any issues that you identify along a public right of way using the ‘public right of way fault reporting tool’. Issues may include broken stiles, overgrown vegetation, fallen trees or damaged and missing sign posts.

To start, you will need to register an account and put in your details such as a username, a new password, e-mail address and your full name.

You'll receive an e-mail to activate your account.

Once you have created or signed into your account, you'll be taken to the ‘report a fault’ map. If you're using a mobile phone, you will need to click on the three horizontal lines in the navigation bar and select the report a fault heading. There are a variety of ways that you can locate the fault you have encountered on the map.

You can search the map by typing the path number or the town post code or street name closest to the fault.

To view an existing fault, click on the information symbol. You can look at the progress of the issue and add your comments or receive future updates to the progress of the works. Next, use the hand icon to select the path the fault is located on.

Use the hazard symbol to mark the location of the fault. Once you have correctly marked the location, click fault details. Here, you will click on the fault type and add in details regarding the fault.

If you have any photos you can attach them here. If you would like to receive updates on our progress resolving the fault, click on the tick box and you will be updated by e-mail. Once submitted, your report will be processed and you will be given a reference number.

You can view all your previous reports by clicking on ‘my reported faults’. Any status updates will be shown here.

Alternatively, clicking on the subheading ‘track a fault’ and typing in the reference number you received will also allow you to live track the fault and view any updates. If we require any further information, you'll be contacted via e-mail with further instructions. The Public Rights of Way team aim to respond to your initial report within one day if it's a public safety issue, or within five days if there are matters with legal deadlines.

We prioritise repairs according to local needs and our obligations as the highway and access authority. We are grateful to all that take the time to report faults as this helps keep our public rights of way network safe and maintained.

Maintaining and protecting your rights of way network.
