TEPO - mental health and wellbeing benefits of quitting smoking video transcript

This transcript is for the video for Teacher in Your Pocket - health and wellbeing benefits of quitting smoking.

This video shows Dave. Dave is a middle aged man, who is sat on a stool wearing a smart shirt and a pair of trousers in front of a big green screen.

[Title card] Stopping smoking. It's well worth it.

Dave speaks to the camera with an empathetic tone to his voice. To the side of him, phrases he speaks of are highlighted:

"I smoked for most of my life and it took a toll on both my physical and mental health. I stopped going to the cinema and the pub and I avoided flying or staying in hotels because I didn't think I could go without smoking. I felt trapped in my habit. The hardest part though was how it affected my relationship with my family.

My children didn't want my grandkids around me when I smoked. I understood why but it was heartbreaking and added to my feelings of loneliness and depression. Thanks to the support of KCC smoke free services, it's been a year since I quit smoking. I can spend more time with my family and feel less anxious and more in control of my life and my health.

Quitting smoking has also allowed me to set a positive example for my grandchildren, showing them that it's never too late to make healthy changes in life. If you're like me and want to make a change, find the right quit route for you at www.kent.gov.uk/smokefree."
